Code of conduct

These courts are shared by four clubs and the whole village. A few expectations keep that working.

Draft — not yet in force

This policy is a working draft. It still needs the council's contact details and formal approval before the courts open to the public, and it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Don't rely on it as it stands.

The courts are shared

There are two courts, four partner clubs and a village that all want to use them. Almost everything here follows from that: the next group is always right behind you.

What we expect

  • Turn up for what you booked, and finish on time. Someone is usually waiting. If you can't make it, cancel — it costs nothing and frees the slot.
  • Play the sport you booked. Netball and football can't safely run at the same time, so switching sports puts the other court's players at risk.
  • Leave the courts as you'd want to find them. Brush the courts, put the equipment away, lock the storage cage, take your rubbish home, shut and lock the gate.
  • Be a good neighbour. There are homes nearby — keep the noise down, especially in the evening, and park considerately.
  • Treat people decently. Abuse, aggression, harassment and discrimination aren't tolerated, towards anyone.
  • Report damage. Tell us about a broken net, a damaged surface or a faulty light rather than leaving it for the next group to discover.

Court rules

These are the council's rules and they apply to everyone:

  • Suitable netball footwear must be used. If the court is used for other sports, appropriate non-damaging footwear should be used. Metal studs or blades must not be used.
  • All footwear should be clean and free from mud, stones, grit and other debris before entering the courts.
  • The courts are a no-smoking / no-vaping area, and chewing gum is not permitted.

If things go wrong

Persistent no-shows, damage, or behaviour that puts others at risk may cost you the ability to book. We'd much rather talk to you first — if something went wrong, tell us at [email address — to be confirmed by Haxby Town Council].
